STRASBOURG, JANUARY 29 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russian members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, or PACE, are circulating at its current session a declaration that appeals to Latvia to revise its policies toward ethnic minorities.
Latvia's parliament passed in a second reading, January 23, an amendment to the Education Law which threatens to put an end to tuition in ethnic minorities' native languages, warn Russian delegates.
They appeal to the Council of Europe and its Parliamentary Assembly to oblige Latvia to comply with its international pledges to observe ethnic minorities' rights. Latvia must reconsider its stances on the issue, says the Russian delegation.
