MOSCOW, January 30th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the Prosecutor's Office's control over officials' work to be insufficient.
"One cannot turn a blind eye to laxity, when, for no objective reason, multi-storey buildings are left without water and electricity for weeks, and people have to freeze in their flats," the Russian leader said at an extended collegiate of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.
"Such a situation is not a rarity. It is obvious. However, officials' laxity is rarely supervised appropriately," said Vladimir Putin.
He emphasised that "law should be superior to the authority and administrative potential of any official." "Prosecutors' supervision should be aimed at enforcing the law," recalled the president.
