BAKU, FEBRUARY 5 (RIA NOVOSTI SPECIAL CORRESPONDENTS SERGEI GORBUNOV, OLGA SEMYONOVA) - Russian-Azeri relations may serve as an example of relations between the neighboring states and between a big state and a small state, president of Azerbaijan Ilkham Aliyev said in an interview with RIA Novosti shortly before his visit to Russia.

"We have practically solved all political issues accumulated for years: the status of the Caspian Sea, political consultations and regional problems," Aliyev pointed out. "Russia has rejected its unilateral stance towards the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and it is also very positive." Touching upon the economic relations, Aliyev said in particular that four-five years ago it was difficult to imagine that the Azeri oil will be transported via the Russian ports.

"We receive great volumes of natural gas from Russia, Russian companies' investments in Azerbaijan increase, and trade growth rates are great, Aliyev emphasized.

This has become possible, he believes, thanks to the political will of both countries and a good political basis.

"We gain from this economically and politically. Our peoples are coming ever more closer to each other. This is why I highly assess the level of our bilateral relations and would like them to develop like this in the future as well," Aliyev said.
