RUSSIAN FIGURE-SKATER PLACED SECOND AT FIGURE-SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP OF EUROPE

BELGRADE, February 6, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Yevgeny Plushchenko took silver at the figure-skating championship of Europe, which is being held in Budapest.

In the competition's final event, the free program, Plushchenko ceded ground to French Brian Joubert, who won the laurels.

Another Russian figure-skater, Ilya Klimkin, took the bronze medal.

Russia's 18-year-old Andrei Gryazev, who made his debut at such highly ranked competition finished in the honourable eighth place.

On Friday the figure-skaters are vying for honours in ice dancing, while women are to compete in the short program.
