"Today, the question has been raised about the role of supervisory bodies in Russia. Recently, much has been said; that they are unnecessary, that the market must carry them out," Mr. Koshman said at a Moscow news conference on Monday.
"We are deeply convinced that this approach is erroneous, looking at what has happened at the water park in Yasenevo," said Mr. Koshman.
(Last Saturday, the roof of the Transvaal Water Park in southwestern Moscow collapsed and killed at least 25 people and injured about 100.)
Mr. Koshman said that the State Construction Committee would seriously check many construction projects in Russia. "There are very serious questions which we want to ask some construction companies in the territory of the entire Russian Federation," he said.
