The Russian leader spoke about the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan at a meeting with the Afghan war veterans.
"These events have to be seriously, thoroughly and passionlessly analyzed by politicians, historians and experts," Vladimir Putin pointed out.
"It is also clear that those who fought in Afghanistan and who acted in accordance with the oath of allegiance have nothing to be ashamed of and should not drop their eyes," Vladimir Putin said.
According to him, "they absolutely honestly fulfilled their soldier's duty," and now "have the right to be appropriately treated by society and the state." The President reminded the audience that not long ago the country marked the 15th anniversary of the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan. "This is a good occasion to speak about the problems of the veteran movement and the people who fought in Afghanistan," he said.
