Stepashin said that "for the managers of industrial structures which did not allow deliberate violations and abided by their liabilities before the federal and local budgets the period of uncertainty will end and the business community will see that the results of privatization are irreversible." Describing upcoming checks of large private and state-run oil companies by the Audit Chamber, Sergei Stepashin said that results of this work will prompt the streamlining of tax legislation, discovery of additional reserves of revenues to budgets of all levels.
The head of the Audit Chamber favorably spoke of interaction between his agency and the United States' General Accounting Office in combating money laundering and the financing of international terrorism, as well as in the efficient use of funds allocated by the United States for the utilization of chemical weapon stockpiles in Russia.
