MOSCOW, March 1, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Central Election Commission does not expect many people to vote early in the presidential elections scheduled for March 14. No more than 100,000 people will have a chance for early voting, commission chairman Alexander Veshnyakov said on Monday.

The early voting began on February 27. It is organized for sailors, currently at sea, residents of distant and hard-to-reach regions and participants of polar expeditions.

According to Veshnyakov, the commission permitted early voting at 79 polling stations in 20 Muslim countries, where Friday is a day off, and in Russian military units abroad.

About 1,000 people have already participated in early voting.
