TEHERAN, MARCH 3, RIA NOVOSTI - A large batch of drugs has been tracked down and seized in Sistan-Baluchistan, a province in the Iranian southeast, which borders on Afghanistan and Pakistan. A police raid confiscated an impressive 1,475 kilograms of drugs, mostly hashish, and a big stock of manufacturing and smuggling equipment in the vicinity of the village Sarawan, from a gang of drug manufacturers and traffickers, reports Hamid Garizan, strongpoint commander.

Lands along Iran's east frontier have long turned into a kind of fortified area. Almost every day, Iranian media outlets report police clashes with armed drug convoys from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The deathly freights are smuggled across Iran to Turkey and on to Western Europe via the Balkans.
