Rashid Nurgaliev, acting minister, has ordered close supervision of station safety-in particular, to make them terror-proof. Patrols will have trained dogs and high-tech gauges to check stations and areas round them on the polling day and its eve.
All police officers are doing 12 hour shifts since February 21.
Emergency arrangements were introduced to protect polling stations and other essential objects from tentative terror acts. Preventive police raids have by now detected 57,000 crimes, confiscated more than 13,000 weapons, and tracked down close on 2,000 stolen cars.
All the 94,436 polling stations there are in Russia have been thoroughly checked. 22,843 of these were found inadequately protects, and ordered to build up safety.
Federal district South, particularly Chechnya, is a scene of the toughest safety measures, the Interior Ministry press service says in a statement.
