MOSCOW, March 5, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - In checking Moslem religious establishment, law enforcement bodies detained ideologists of extremism, reported the chief of the main department for maintaining law and order of the Russian Interior Ministry, Nikolai Pershutkin.
"Some religious establishments were checked with the aim of preventing terrorist and extremist acts. The results have surpassed all our expectations," he said.
The general explained that during one of such checks by the criminal police "in one of the city mosques they detained persons not directly involved in performing terrorist acts but in forming an appropriate terrorist ideology."
