ASTANA, March 14 (RIA Novosti). President Nursultan Nazabayev of Kazakhstan expressed condolences to the families of victims of the mudslide in the south of the republic, RIA was told in the president's press service. The head of state also expressed his "sincere sympathy for the victims."
He instructed the government to establish a commission and to work jointly with the administration of the Alma Ata region to take measures to clear up the consequences of the disaster and provide material assistance to the victims.
A mudslide rushed towards the Ak-Bulak resort and residential blocks in the Talgar District, Alma Ata Region, at 2 at night today following heavy precipitation. According to the republican emergencies agency, 28 people, including nine citizens of China, are in the slide zone; eight people have been reported dead.
