EXIT POLLS SHOW PUTIN'S WIDE LEAD

MOSCOW, MARCH 14, 2004, (RIA NOVOSTI) - Exit polls indicate that the incumbent President, Vladimir Putin, is leading by a wide margin in Russia's presidential election.

According to an exit poll conducted by the Public Opinion pollster, 69 percent of the voters have cast their ballots for Putin. Nikolai Kharitonov is second, with 12.6 percent of the vote. Sergei Glazyev and Irina Hakamada follow with 4.7 percent each. Oleg Malyshkin has received a mere 2.3% of the vote and Sergei Mironov, just 1%.
