According to the Novosti-Georgia agency Solomon Pasi reported that in connection with development of the situation around Adzharia he was forced on Monday to amend the earlier planned schedule of his stay in Georgia and to go to Poti to attend a meeting with representatives of the Georgian leadership.
Pasi also mentioned that he had meetings with the country's president Mikhail Saakashvili and prime minister Zurab Zhvania. Pasi indicated that they informed him of the development of the situation in Adzharia and at the same time the Georgian president assured him of his intentions to settle the issue through peaceful means.
The OSCE head also stated that on Monday he had a telephone conversation with Aslan Abashidze, head of Adzharia. Pasi pointed out that in the wake of the conversation with the Adzharian leader he felt confident that the parties got a serious potential to peacefully resolve the problem.
According to the OSCE chairman, "both sides got some basis for a dialogue, as the democratic development and well-being of the country were in the interests of both sides." Solomon Pasi stated that his advice to both sides was that in order to resolve the problem, it is necessary not only to look into the future but to look back into history.
