SESLAVINSKY DEFINES GOALS OF FEDERAL PRESS AND MASS COMMUNICATIONS AGENCY

MOSCOW, March 19, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Mikhail Seslavinsky, the new head of the Federal Press and Mass Communications Agency, outlined the main tasks of the agency.

"The agency must stimulate and support free development of Russian mass media," Mr. Seslavinsky said.

According to him, most of the issues that the Press Ministry undertook under Mikhail Lesin have not been resolved yet.

Mr. Seslavinsky said that the creation of favorable economic conditions for the development of the sector, removing inappropriate changes in legislation and the transparency of the work of the executive body were among the problems he would undertake.

Mikhail Seslavinsky noted that the authority of the agency had not been defined yet. In his words, the Government will issue a resolution about the matter at the end of the next week.
