GERMAN, FRENCH, RUSSIAN LEADERS WILL NOT HAVE TRILATERAL MEETING

MOSCOW, March 26, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The trilateral meeting of the German, French and Russian leaders will not take place, said German ambassador to Russia Hans Friedrich von Ploetz.

"By the time Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder arrives in Russia on a short routine visit, French President Jacques Chirac will have left Moscow," the ambassador said.

"The talks of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, to take place during the latter's visit to Russia, will focus on a number of international and bilateral issues. The talk is about a friendly routine visit," said Hans Friedrich von Ploetz.

In accordance with the agreement reached, Gerhard Schroeder will visit Russia on April 2 on a short routine visit, which will be timed to the opening of the Year of German Culture in Russia.

French President Jacques Chirac will visit Russia on a short routine visit on April 2 too.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov did not rule out the possibility of a trilateral meeting of Vladimir Putin, Gerhard Schroeder and Jacques Chirac.
