MOSCOW, March 28, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Abkhazian Plenipotentiary representative to Russia Igor Akhba refuted Georgian mass media statements concerning the Georgian Parliamentary elections on the territory of Abkhazia.

"The Republic of Abkhazia is a sovereign state with its own authorities and has no state-legal relations with Georgia since 1992, when the latter started the war against Abkhazia. Since than Abkhazian citizens take no part in any elections, held in neighboring Georgia," Mr. Akhba disclosed.

The statement was received by RIA Novosti from the press-service of the Abkhazian Plenipotentiary representative to Russia.

The Georgian mass media reported earlier that the Georgian Parliamentary elections were being held on the territories of the Kodor Gorge and Galsk district, which administratively belong to Abkhazia, but controlled by Tbilisi.
