The relative draft law was submitted by a group of deputies form the People's Deputy faction of the last 3rd Duma and intended including in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation a new article saying that "an unnatural satisfaction of male's sexual demand with another male entails imprisonment for a term of 1 to 5 years".
The law was proposed to be spread on such violent and voluntary actions.
The authors explained the need for developing a similar document by the desire to "strengthen the public morality and health of citizens".
Fellow-deputies decided to decline this legislative initiative. They recalled that the article intending punishment for sodomy was removed from new Criminal Code in line with the Russian constitution, guaranteeing the inviolability of private life of citizens, their private and family secrets.
The legal department of the State Duma has also drawn a negative conclusion on the draft law, noting that the deeds described by the deputies lack "signs of obvious public danger" enough to view them as crimes.
