"Armenia is steeped in corruption and poverty. A change of rule is the only way out of its plight," parliamentarian Artashes Ghegamyan, National Unity party leader, said to the rally.
The Communist Party of Armenia has joined the National Unity as an affiliate, he announced.
The rally gathered two to four thousand, on various evaluations. There were several outrages during it-suffice it to mention a team of youngsters who attempted to come to fisticuffs with public protesters. When suppressed, the aggressive youths fell on media people and smashed several photographers' and television reporters' cameras.
Artashes Ghegamyan and Stepan Demirchyan, Justice political bloc leader, addressed news briefing the same day to say that the opposition is launching public action, April 9, to overthrow the present regime.
Last year's presidential and parliamentary returns were fake, insists the opposition. The Justice bloc and the National Unity party demand President Robert Kocharyan dismissed and pre-term presidential and parliamentary polls arranged.
Authorities threaten a firm rebuff if opposition goes on rocking the boat.
