BAKU, APRIL 6, 2004, (RIA Novosti) - A Russo-Azeri economic forum now underway in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, has called for further expansion of economic cooperation between the two nations.
Day One of the forum was rounded off with a resolution on cooperation in the petroleum sector. This document emphasizes the importance of joint projects between regions of Russia and its oil-rich southern neighbor.
First Vice Premier Abbas Abbasov of Azerbaijan and Industries & Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko of Russia, who are Co-Chairs of the Russo-Azeri Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, presided over the 300-strong gathering.
The forum's aim is to discuss progress in the implementation of the Russi-Azerbaijan Long-Term Cooperation Program, through the year 2010.
Azeri President Ilkham Aliyev attended today's opening ceremony.
