He stressed, however, that there is no confrontation between the CSTO and NATO today.
"We understand that today NATO is an active player, a structure present both in Central Asia and Transcaucasia. Russia, like most other CSTO member-states, has been carrying on active cooperation with NATO of late," Nikolai Bordyuzha reminded the audience.
The CSTO offers cooperation to NATO in countering such current threats as terrorism and spread of drugs, he said.
Assessing the situation in the CSTO countries, particularly in the Caucasus and Central Asia, Bordyuzha said that it was relatively stable.
"There are some factors adversely affecting the current situation, such, for example, as the problems in Afghanistan or activities by extremist groups, but for the time being no serious processes of alarming nature are under way in the region," the CSTO General Secretary pointed out.
