CAIRO, April 10 (RIA Novosti's Igor Kuznetsov) - Hundreds of Orthodox believers from Russia and other CIS countries will celebrate Easter in Egypt.

Religious procession with the cross will be held in the St. Demetrius of Thessalonica church in Cairo. On Sunday morning, archpriest Alexander, the church's senior priest, will conduct a festive divine service.

About 8,000,000 Egyptian Copts (descendants of the pre-Arab population of the country), who are ranked among the Eastern branch of Christianity will mark Easter too. Religious processions with the cross will be conducted in Cairo's 163 churches.

The St. Sergius church, where, according to the legend, the Holy Family were hiding from Herod's warriors, is one of the most popular among believers.

Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak sent from the USA a greeting message to the head of the Coptic church, Pope Shenouda III.

This year, Easter falls on Muslims' local holiday Nasim - "Spring wind", which marks the arrival of spring. So Egypt has two days off and holidays.
