"In a range of countries worldwide, such phenomena as neofascism, neonazism, skinheads, even the glorification of former SS men are preserved," a representative of the Russian delegation at the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Commission, now on in Geneva, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
Voting on the resolution on the inadmissibility of actions promoting the emergence of modern forms of racism, race discrimination, xenophobia, and intolerance is slated for Friday, April 16.
Some countries, including members of the European Union, are against this resolution.
"Some countries of the European Union have seen themselves in the thematic resolution and are against its adoption by consensus," he said.
Now the Russian delegation is holding consultations with involved countries and making amendments to the draft.
"We hope that the resolution will be adopted without voting, that the European Union will eventually understand that voting against the resolution means voting for the SS, nazism, neofascism and that they have the right to exist," he said.
The Russian-proposed resolution invites the UN member countries to end the worldwide spread of extremist movements, groups and political parties.
Russia also wants the special rapporteur of the UN Human Rights Commission to prepare for the 61st session relative recommendations, taking into consideration the points of view of the governments of different countries, and non-governmental organizations.
