"Russia is strong enough for proper reaction in case the new members of NATO take relative actions", Baluevski said.
He stressed that Russia will "preach" civilized approaches building up relations with NATO. "In my view, measure we take should be of a complex, I'd say delicate character", he noted.
He believes that Russia should not allow its isolation in the international arena precisely because of the NATO expansion.
"We can brandish our arms, but should we?", he added.
Baluevski stressed that "Russia has enough means to find answers to all the possible challenges".
Russia is ready to revise the principles of military planning in case the NATO military doctrine is preserved, he said.
"If NATO is preserved as a military alliance with the existing military doctrine, this will call for a revision of principles of military planning, including the strategic nuclear forces", Baluevski said.
He noted that Russia closely follows the processes going on in NATO, particularly in which direction NATO will be transformed - towards a political structure or a military alliance.
