MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Inter-Parliamentary Union opened its 110th assembly in Mexico City. One delegation is representing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Russo-Belarussian union.

The delegates intend to attract assembly attention to NATO eastward expansion, says Nikolai Cherginets, foreign political committee head.

"We are realists. We see that the expansion is a fait accompli, and we have to make a dialogue and establish contacts. We shall say at the conference all we think about the USA dominating the world to brew global problems-in particular, I mean its attack on Iraq in violation of an UN resolution." The Russo-Belarussian delegates will call the gathering to weigh opportunities for transforming the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly into a Peace Parliament. The Assembly comprises parliaments of 150 countries or so. If they approve the initiative, member parliaments will have a good chance to tackle matters of global purport-for instance, the anti-terror combat.

The delegates will also inform the assembly about formative progress of the Russo-Belarussian union, and gather for bilateral conferences with spokesmen of many national parliaments, and of parliamentary assemblies of the West European Union, the Council of Europe, and the OSCE, said Mr. Cherginets.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union granted the Parliamentary Assembly of the Russo-Belarussian union an observer's status in 2002. Parliamentary assemblies of the Council of Europe, the OSCE, and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation have a similar status.

The 110th Assembly is finishing Saturday next, April 24.
