GROZNY, April 26 (RIA Novosti) - A cache containing more than 1,000 pieces of ammunition for a grenade launcher was discovered in Chechnya, the regional operational headquarters for controlling the antiterrorist operation in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.

"In the basement of a semi-destroyed building in Grozny, policemen found a specially equipped cache from which they took 1,101 VOG-17 grenade rounds," a press release from the headquarters that RIA Novosti received on Monday said. The document said that at the present time an investigation is underway in order to determine the owner of the cache.

The headquarters also reported that another cache was found in the Shali district of the republic, near the village of Duba-Yurt.

"That specially equipped cache contained two sub-machineguns, two pistols, a mine, three cumulative charges, six grenade launcher rounds, 2,680 different caliber cartridges and two distant controls of mine fields," the press release said.

According to the information, all these weapons and ammunition belonged to the so-called "emir" of the bandit group headed by Khalidov (killed in a battle with the federal forces in 2003), said the document.
