Issue of the joint publication began in 2003 December. Now it comes out in Russian, English and Spanish.
"I hope this good doing will do good", Yuri Baluevski, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, told the press conference. The Defence Ministry has "traversed a 12-year-long path" towards this publication.
The review targets carrying objective information for Russian and foreign subscribers, including in such sensitive problems as asserting the image of the Russian armed forces, attraction of the military service, patriotic education of the youth and servicemen.
"The review will talk of problems of concern to society, including in what direction the modern army is to develop", Baluevski said. And noted that there is also room for censuring work of the Defence Ministry. "There must be room for criticism", he stressed.
Baluevski said that censorship will also be present in reasonable limits. "It will be elementary censorship regarding materials on the development of any army", Baluevski said.
The review is two-fold. One part of it will be journalistic analytical materials, the second part is given to the Defence Ministry documents.
"The main criterion of this publication is objectivity. We are ready to talk of problems and of what is really taking place", chairman of the RIA Novosti board Burmistrov assured.
"The more they know abroad about the real picture in the Russian Federation, the more esteem for us will increase", said Victor Ozerov, chairman of the security and defence committee of the Federation Council, who was present at the press conference.
The message of greetings on behalf of Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov says that "the establishment of the analytic-information publication Russian Military Review by the military department is certainly a topical and significant event".
"The new publication will be an objective and rich source of information on military problems in not only our country but also abroad. It will be promoted in full measure by the unique for Russian journalism experience of the joint issue by the Defence Ministry and RIA Novosti of a periodic military publication in Russian and foreign languages", reads the document.
