JORDAN INTERESTED IN MILITARY-TECHNICAL COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA, SAYS ABDALLAH II

AMMAN, April 27 (RIA Novosti's Alexander Krasnov) - Jordan is interested in military-technical cooperation with Russia, Abdallah II, the King of Jordan, said on Tuesday while visiting the Russian exposition at the international SOFEX 2004 special operations forces exhibition.

The Jordanian monarch has visited the Russian exposition twice: on Tuesday, when it officially opened, and on Monday, when a special visit was arranged for him. Then he emphasized that by the time the exhibition closes, Jordan will surely formulate its order for Russian special means.

The special operations forces exhibition is held in Amman for a fifth time. A representative of the exhibition organizational committee told RIA Novosti that this year, about 200 companies from 32 countries take part in it. Jordanian state and private structures and the General Exhibitions Corporation from the United Arab Emirates are the main founders and organizers of the event.

The Russian Federation is represented by the Rosoboronexport state unitary enterprise. It exhibits specimens, models and ads of about 150 items of military- and civil-purpose production.

Vyacheslav Ovchinnikov, the head of the Rosoboronexport delegation, told RIA Novosti that the shown goods by the leading Russian producers, many of which are demonstrated abroad for the first time, give an idea of the latest developments of individual protection means, new modifications of rifle and special weapons, as well as systems of state border and closed facilities' protection.

Besides, Rosoboronexport, in the words of its representative, intends to use the capabilities of the exhibition to demonstrate other export-oriented armaments and military hardware of Russian make.

The exhibition in Amman will close on April 29.
