MOSCOW, April 27 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Ministry for Economic Development and Trade does not rule out gradual cutting of duties on the import of foreign cars after Russia joins the World Trade Organisation, Maxim Medvedkov, director of the ministry's trade talks board, told journalists on Tuesday.

"The duties on foreign cars will go down during a lengthy transitional period of six to seven years. But they will not be negligible", Medvedkov said. He did not specify how much they can be reduced.

European partners agree to the need of a transitional period, he said. "Agreement on figures and how the reduction will be made, gradually or abruptly in the end of the transitional period, has not yet been negotiated", Medvedkov said.

He also noted that duties on used foreign cars will be higher than on new ones.
