By June 1, 2004 the system of electronic declaration will be deployed at five posts of the Central Customs Department of the Russian customs service.
According to the chief of the department, the main advantage of the electronic declaration will be maximal simplification and acceleration of customs registration and also minimisation of overhead expenses.
Mr. Sedov attended the gala ceremony of issuing the 1,000th electronic cargo customs declaration at the Kashirsky customs post of Moscow where the experiment to introduce the electronic declaration system began about 1.5 years ago.
Nearly 100 items can be declared in one document.
"The electronic system minimises a customs inspector's efforts in checking the sender's information and registering the electronic declaration, while the average time for processing the declared good is reduced considerably and does not exceed 20 minutes," said Mr. Sedov. In his words, during the experiment at the Kashirsky customs post, imported cargoes to the sum of over $40 million were registered and payments of over $10 million were effected.
