First deputy head of the department for natural resources management and development of the oil and gas sector of the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous area administration Sergei Kekukh met the head of state at the entrance to the center. He told Vladimir Putin about the history of the creation and the tasks of the territorial center.
The center keeps geological information gathered over 40 years of geological prospecting. "Over 20 expeditions organized across the entire territory of the autonomous area prepared this information," Sergei Kekukh said.
He noted that the termination of budget financing resulted in the reduced number of expeditions and big problems for the preservation of information. "This is why the territorial database was created."
According to Kekukh, modern electronic media store 95% of all primary geological information. "The database keeps information on 22,000 wells and this information is constantly updated."
The center has a modern library and an electronic archive. The Yamalo-Nenets autonomous area is the sole subdivision of the Russian Federation, which has an electronic version of the area's topographic map created on the basis of aerial surveys, Mr. Kekukh said.
The database also has data on forest and water resources, the fauna and specially protected resources.
