CSTO COUNTRIES CREATE JOINT SYSTEM OF TECHNICAL PROTECTION OF RAILWAYS

YEREVAN, April 30 (RIA Novosti) - The National Assembly of Armenia has ratified the agreement on the creation of a joint system of technical protection of railways of the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.

Serzh Sarkisyan, Defence Minister of Armenia and Secretary of the Security Council under the Armenian President, said at the parliament session that the agreement was signed on April 28, 2003 and the joint system is to be created by 2005.

In his words, the creation of the system will ensure stable operation of railways in the interests of national security and economic development, and is designed to give the member states the status of reliable partners in the operation of transport at the international level.

The CSTO includes six states - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
