POTI (Georgia), May 2 (RIA Novosti) - On Sunday morning an automobile road in the area of Choloki on the administrative border with Adzharia (mutinous republic within Georgia) was closed, spokesman for the Adzharian Interior Ministry David Gergedava said.

By decision of the Adzharian leaders, two bridges on the automobile road leading to Adzharia were blown up.

In particular, one of the bridges across the Choloki River was blown up, the Georgian mass media sources report.

Up to a thousand of the supporters of Adzharian leader Aslan Abashidze and several pieces of the armor are located on the administrative border in the area of Choloki.

According to unofficial information from the Georgian Interior Ministry, the Adzharian authorities intend this Sunday to declare a temporary closure of the control post of Sarpi on the border with Turkey.

Meantime, the main stage of the Dioscuria-2004 military exercises, the largest in Georgia in the past twelve years, has begun in the port city of Poti. Members of the Georgian government and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili are staying in the city.

As analysts believe, precisely the arrival of Mikhail Saakashvili in Poti served as the reason for the closure of the road, and also prompted the intention of the activists of the political organization called Our Adzharia to hold a march of protest along the Poti-Batumi route.
