PETROPAVLOVSK KAMCHATSKY, May 4 (RIA Novosti) - On Tuesday Kamchatka (a peninsula in the North-East Asian party of Russia washed by the Pacific ocean with a time lag from Moscow of 9 hours) hosted a joint collegium of the region's law-enforcement bodies devoted to neutralizing threats to economic security, of terrorism, drug trafficking and protection of sea biological resources. The session was attended by guests from Moscow, chairmen of the State Duma's corresponding committees Vladimir Vasilyev and Viktor Zavarzin.

"Work to ensure economic security in the international basin, such as the Pacific, can be efficient only if international cooperation is expanded," Vasilyev told journalists after the session.

In his opinion, "development of cooperation in the sphere on all levels has an unlimited potential and requires support from the parliament".

At present, there is a four-party agreement between the USA, Japan, Canada and Russia on interaction to protect anadromous fish. Frontier guards of the Russian FSB's north-east regional frontier department and of the 17 districts of US coast guards cooperate closely in protection of sea biological resource in the Pacific conventional areas.

Expansion of international cooperation in the sphere will allow achieving better interaction to protect resources, controlling customs declarations and permits for catching seafood only in the states' economic zones.
