TBILISI, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - A pre-term parliamentary election in Adzharia, autonomy within Georgia, may be appointed for as early as mid-June, President Mikhail Saakashvili of Georgia said to the media. Meanwhile, a Provisional Council under his own supervision will govern Adzharia.

The Georgian top is doing all it can to regain control of the republic, reports Novosti-Georgia news agency.

"We have thwarted attempts to smuggle material values off to Turkey via the Sarpi customs checkpoint. We have nipped marauding attempts in the bud. Georgian Interior units entered Adzharia for a time to maintain law and order. The public has offered them a friendly welcome," said the President.

Three highway bridges were demolished on the republican top's order along the Adzhar-Georgian administrative border, May 2. Bridge reconstruction is starting today. Preparations to accommodate summer vacationers will resume quite soon, Mr. Saakashvili went on.

The Georgian government has allocated fertilisers to Adzharia. They will be given out to the population since tomorrow. Rebellious republican President Aslan Abashidze recently refused to admit a fertiliser caravan to Adzharia. The lorries were carrying TNT concealed in the cargo, he alleged.

President Saakashvili intends to stay in Adzharia for several days, he said. That will be four days, assume Georgian-based media outlets.
