MOSCOW, May 7 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Putin was introduced to the Household Regiment as he came out to the Kremlin's Cathedral Square after being sworn in as President of the Russian Federation.
Russia's Household Regiment traces its history back to 1936. It serves as a personal bodyguard to the President and his entourage and performs ceremonial duties.
The regiment took an active part in battles of the Second World War. Its contribution to the Soviet Union's victory over the Nazi invaders earned it a Red Banner, a symbol of military valor and glory, as well as a Red Banner Order and an October Revolution Order.
