MAKHACHKALA, May 7 (RIA Novosti) -Two policemen were killed and one wounded when unidentified gunmen shot at a police car in Dagestan (Russia's autonomous republic in the western Caspian bordering on Chechnya in the east), a source in the republican Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.
"On Thursday, at 23.25 Moscow time, at a motorway in a suburb of the town of Izberbash, unidentified gunmen in a passing Zhiguli car opened assault rifle fire at a police UAZ patrol vehicle carrying three police officers on duty," the source said.
According to him, squad commander Magomedshapi Sultanov and senior sergeant Timur Magomedov were killed in the attack. The UAZ driver Kurban Aliyev got three gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in serious condition.
"43 bullet holes were registered by investigators in the body of the police car; the police officers were hit before they could return fire," the source pointed out.
