UN STATEMENT ON GROZNY TERRORIST ACT

MOSCOW, May 11 (RIA Novosti) - The UN Security Council's statement on the terrorist act in Grozny graphically testifies that the Security Council is continuing to combat resolutely all forms of terror, says the official statement of Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko .

"This statement graphically confirms that the UN Security Council, with Russia's active support, is continuing the resolute fight against all forms of terrorism in line with its obligations laid down in the UN Charter and effectively co-ordinating efforts of the international community in this crucial area," the statement runs.

The official statement of the chairman of the UN Security Council, which openly condemns the terrorist act in Grozny on May 9, was adopted on May 10 on Russia's initiative.

"The Security Council bluntly censured those who committed this ruthless crime and expressed deep condolences to those injured in the terrorist act, their families and the families of the victims, and the Russian government," said Yakovenko.

After confirming the qualification of terrorism as one of the most serious threats to the international peace and security, UN Security Council members called on all countries to co-operate with the Russian authorities in line with Resolution 1373 to bring to book the perpetrators, architects and sponsors of this terrorist act.

After the terrorist act in Grozny, 89 people asked for medical assistance in Grozny, head of the medical emergencies centre Mikhail Malashikhin.

An explosion ripped through the Dinamo stadium in Grozny at 10.35 Moscow time on May 9. According to the preliminary information, the unidentified explosive device had been placed in the central grand stand of the stadium where a gala concert was being held to celebrate Victory Day. As a result of the explosion, six people were killed, including Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov.
