In the first quarter, the export of goods from Russia stood at 37.289 billion dollars (31.080 billion dollars a year before), import at 19.195 billion dollars (15.830 billion dollars a year before). Thus, Russia's foreign-trade turnover (according to the balance-of-payment methods) in 2004 January-March was 56.484 billion dollars in comparison with 46.91 billion dollars in 2003.
In the total volume of export, shipments to foreign countries in the 2004 first quarter increased by 18.4 percent to 31.37 billion dollars, export to countries of the CIS increased by 29.2 percent to 5.919 billion dollars.
The import of products from foreign countries in the first three months of this year increased from the same period in 2003 by 19.7 percent to 15.251 billion dollars, from the CIS countries by 27.8 percent to 3.944 billion dollars.
In 2004 March, the export and import volume stood at 13.522 and 7.576 billion dollars from 11.592 and 5.978 billion dollars a year before. Of this number, the export to foreign countries increased by 37.9 percent to 9.888 billion dollars and to CIS countries by 30.3 percent to 1.704 billion dollars; import in 2004 March increased, correspondingly, by 29.1 percent to 4.85 billion dollars and by 24.6 percent to 1.128 billion dollars.
