The month increased the number of users in Moscow and its environs by 3.1 per cent from 12,424,223 in March to 12,813,564, April, penetration level 75.4% and 73.1%, respectively.
The increase for St. Petersburg was 3.4 per cent-from 3,931,481 to 4,066,771, penetration level 64.1 per cent, April, and 62 per cent, March.
The MTS, or Mobile TeleSystems, retains its long-established supremacy, with 21,514,000 users, April, against 19,950,000 in March. Moscow accounted for 5,605,849 and St. Petersburg, 179,997 users.
The Bee Line's VympelCom increased its clientele from 13,348,000 in March to 14,125,000, April, with 6,150,000 in Moscow by April's end.
The MegaPhone, Russia's third-biggest cellular operator, had 8,128,165 users, April, as against 7,741,730 the preceding month, with a respective 1,002,315 and 942,377 for Moscow.
Russia's top cellular operators also include the UralSvyazInform-1,395,389 users by April's end; SMARTS, 1,317,000; and SibirTelecom, 604,700.
The MTS accounts for 37 per cent of the Russian cellular market, the VympelCom 32 per cent, and the MegaPhone 18 per cent, with a lump 13 per cent for all the other companies.
