DUBAI, May 18 (RIA Novosti) - An international conference discussing financial, technical and personnel-related aid to Afghan police has opened in Doha, the capital of Qatar, under the aegis of Germany and the UN.

According to the Ar-Raya newspaper quoting the organizers of the conference, participating in the two-day forum will be interior ministers and representatives of governmental organizations from over 20 countries, including Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. There are already the first results - the conferees have agreed to allocate about $200 million for Afghan police.

At an international conference in early April, Afghan President Hamid Karzai turned to donor countries for help to the sum of $27.5 billion for the next seven years. However, the participants in the conference found Kabul's appetites excessive and decided to reduce considerably the sum to be allotted for the fight against drug trafficking and for the economic restoration of Afghanistan.
