CHECHEN MAY 9 BLAST: WHAT DID INTERIOR MINISTER SAY TO DUMA?

MOSCOW, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - Rashid Nurgaliev, acting federal Interior Minister, addressed the State Duma, parliament's lower house, during its Government Hour. He mentioned to the gathering all suspects on a recent terror act. That was why the session was a closed-door arrangement, Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov said to the media afterwards.

Was he meaning a sensational May 9 blast in Grozny, in which Chechen President Ahmad Kadyrov died, a reporter asked Mr. Gryzlov. The answer was "yes".

"People under investigation were mentioned, and some other names came up during the debates. The matter certainly demanded secrecy," remarked the Speaker.

Chechen policemen really mean to fight banditry. There is no reason to accuse them of non-efficiency, let alone abuse of office, he reassured. All forces involved in Chechen anti-terror action are cooperating smoothly enough, added Mr. Gryzlov.

The Interior Minister also mentioned police salaries, saying they were paid on schedule now, though some arrears remained from the recent past, reported the Duma Speaker.
