BUENOS AIRES, May 25 (RIA Novosti) - Rosoboronexport, Russia's Federal Service for Technological and Export Control, opened a regional office in Uruguay.

"South American militaries expressed interest in strengthening military and technological cooperation with our country," a spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission in Montevideo told RIA Novosti.

"To a large extent, this is because of the impeccable reputation of the Federal State Enterprise Rosoboronexport, which is known in the region as a reliable and honest partner," the spokesman said.

Representatives of the Uruguayan Armed Forces command and the defense ministries of other South American countries attended the presentation ceremony in the Russian Embassy in Uruguay.

The spokesman for the Russian Embassy also said that last year the Uruguayan Armed Forces, including the Uruguayan peacekeeping contingent in Congo, were fully equipped with Russian vehicles.

Apart from military, Russian companies are developing cooperation with civilian organizations. A contract for deliveries of Russian road-building machinery to the Uruguayan Governors Congress will be signed soon.
