FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM AMONG RUSSIA'S FOREIGN-POLICY TOP PRIORITIES

MOSCOW, May 25 (RIA Novosti) - Fight against terrorism remains among the foreign-policy top priorities of Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told newsman.

"Russia is an active participant and among the initiators of the antiterrorist coalition", he stressed.

Lavrov recalled that, during the apartment house explosions in Moscow and Volgodonsk, invasion of Daghestan by Chechen militants in 1999, the United Nations Security Council adopted, on Russia's initiative, the first anti-terrorist resolution, laying down the principles of fight against terrorism.

"These principles were later confirmed in the resolution adopted after the September 11, 2001 events in the United States and in establishing the UN Counterterrorist Committee", Lavrov said.

Russia does a great share in the implementation of the UN initiatives to fulfil the conventions against terrorism, bringing them in keeping with the legislations and the law-enforcement structures of some countries.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that Russia actively cooperates with the United Nations in the promotion of any initiatives to be required in this direction.
