MOSCOW, May 25 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian-Italian interparliamentary commission discussed, at a regular sitting, problems of relations between Russia and the European Union, international terrorism, as well as matters of international adoption, first vice-speaker of the State Duma (the lower chamber of Russian parliament) Lyubov Sliska has said on results of the sitting.

Member of the Italian delegation Gustavo Selva, head of the international committee of the Italian parliament, said that "Russian parliamentarians have taught a lesson of resolve in matters of struggle against offences surrounding the adoption of children".

Interparliamentary contacts should be tightened as regards the struggle against international terrorism, the Italian parliamentarian said.

He also said that in September the interparliamentary commission will gather for a regular meeting in Rome, where the discussion of such matters will continue.

The problem of legality of adopting Russian children resounded in 2002, when Italian citizen Nadejda Fratti, formerly a Russian national, was charged on three articles of the Russian Criminal Code (repeated forgery of documents, forgery of civil-case documents, repeated bribe giving to officials) and sentenced to seven years with a five-year probation period.

Investigation suspected her of selling Russian children to rich foreigners. Almost 600 children from orphanages in the Volgograd region have been adopted by foreigners, including Italians, over the 7 years of work of the Arcobaleno association in the region. Almost all the adoption papers passed through the association. Investigation found that almost all the children adopted through Arcobaleno are in good health and live in well-to-do families.

Later, the Volgograd regional court acquitted Nadejda Fratti of the international association Arcobaleno for "failure of evidence of the crime".
