TEN SOLDIERS WOUNDED, TWO REBELS KILLED IN CHECHNYA

GROZNY, May 30 - (RIA Novosti). Three Russian military servicemen were wounded as a motorcade tripped a roadside bomb in Chechnya, the Regional Headquarters for Antiterrorist Operation in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.

"Yesterday at 1630 near the village of Elistanzhi, Vedeno district, a motorcade transferring military personnel tripped an unidentified explosive device," a spokesman for the Headquarters said.

He said that a medic lieutenant and two enlisted volunteers were wounded and hospitalized.

Another six servicemen were wounded by a booby trap on reconnaissance, the spokesman also said.

"Yesteday at 0925 near the village of Malye Shuani, Nozhai-Yurt district, a joint Army--Interior Forces team conducted reconnaissance when an RGD-5 booby trap went off," the spokesman said.

According to him, a private of the Interior Forces and five Army men - a lieutenant and four enlisted ranks - were wounded and hospitalized.

An Interior Forces man was wounded by an explosion near the town of Argun.

"On Saturday at 0825 near the town of Argun a self-made roadside bomb hidden in a pile of pebbles went off during a mine-search operation," the spokesman for the Headquarters said. The corporal was wounded and hospitalized, he said.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry of Chechnya told RIA Novosti that two rebels had been eliminated.

"At noon on Saturday the police stopped two men in the Zavodskoy district of Chechnya's capital Grozny. Urged to identify themselves, the men opened fire and were eliminated by return fire," the spokesman said.

He said that two Makarov pistols had been seized at the scene. According to the police, the eliminated men were prominent rebels born in the village of Gekhi, Urus-Martan district.
