Discussed during the telephone conversation "were the issues related to the UN Security Council resolution on Iraq, which was expected to be adopted in the near future", a source in the Foreign Ministry Information and Press Department told RIA Novosti.

The USA and Great Britain are going to officially submit to the UN Security Council the third version of the draft resolution on Iraq, which has been revised in accordance with amendments and proposals of other Security Council members.

In the interview to RIA Novosti Yuri Fedotov, deputy Russian foreign minister, called the new draft version a "positive evolution", pointing out that it addressed many details the Russian side was concerned about. At the same time he stressed that the work over the draft had not been finished yet, and the Security Council members were in for intensive consultations.

The new draft resolution will probably be put to vote as early as on Tuesday.

Sergei Lavrov also discussed over the phone the situation regarding the preparation of the UN Security Council new resolution on Iraq with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Fattini, a source in the Foreign Ministry Information and Press Department told RIA Novosti.

"Discussed were the issues of Iraqi settlement, including the situation regarding the preparation of the UN Security Council new resolution on Iraq and some other international problems", said a Foreign Ministry official.

The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that in discussion of the bilateral relations the parties confirmed "their mutual interest in continuing the intensive Russian-Italian dialogue".
