"We are interested in this project," Mr. Chubais noted following the meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov.
Preparations for the construction of the Sangtudinskaya hydroelectric power station on the Vakhsh River with 670 MW capacity have been already completed.
According to Anatoly Chubais, $350,000-520,000 are needed to accomplish the station.
All in all, the construction costs $482,700,000.
The Sangtudinskaya hydroelectric power station is the first project of the interstate target programs within the EurAsEC framework (the Eurasian Economic Community includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine have the status of observers), said Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov.
"It means that we start joint implementation of perspective projects," the President noted.
After the power station's commissioning, Tajikistan will solve internal electric energy problems and will be able to export it to neighboring countries, including Afghanistan.
A modern industrial base created for the construction of the Baipazinskaya and Nurekskaya hydroelectric power stations in Tajikistan is used to build the Sangtudinskaya power station.
The Tajik authorities often claimed Russia, Iran and China's interest in this project. However, only Russia and Iran signed agreements on joint construction of the power station.
Anatoly Chubais arrived in Tajikistan to participate in the 25th session of the CIS Energy Council on June 10. The session will focus on the formation of the CIS common electric energy market.
