GOVERNMENT DEFINES TRANSPORT MINISTRY'S POWERS

MOSCOW, June 15 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian government defined the Transport Ministry's authority. Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov signed the corresponding decision on Monday, the government's press service reported.

According to the document, the ministry will perform "normative legal regulation in the sphere of air [civil aviation], sea, internal waters, railroad, car and public transportation [including the metro], industrial transportation, road maintenance, land surveying and map making, as well as naming geographical objects."

The ministry will coordinate the activity of the Federal Service on supervision of transportation and several federal agencies including the agencies responsible for air transportation, railroad transportation, sea and river transportation, land surveying and map making and roads.

According the document, the ministry will also be involved in the development of a tariff policy in the field of transport. It was earlier reported that Igor Levitin would be the transport minister.
