"Such steps not only shadow the positive background of the Russian-Norwegian relations progressive development, but set one thinking whether Norway is sincerely adherent to its commitments with regard to the UN Security Council resolutions prescribing, in particular, to refrain from any kind of support be it active or passive to organizations or persons involved in terrorist attacks and make sure that terrorists' accomplices do not misuse the refugee status (the status of political refugee was given to Zakaev by the British authorities, who refused on these grounds following long court trials to meet the request of the Russian General Prosecutor's Office on Zakaev's extradition)", says the statement.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the provocative trip to Norway of Chechen terrorists' representative Ahmed Zakaev "apparently ended in failure".
"Norway's public unlike some officials did not show any interest to the militant separatists emissary, who connived with terrorists like Shamil Basaev, standing on the UN terrorists list", stresses the Foreign Ministry statement.
